Hi fellow walkers,
When I first decided to take on the 100KM Walk of the Dead in 2023, I had no idea how much that decision would change me. The idea of walking 100 kilometers in one go sounded like an exciting challenge—but also slightly insane.
And when I casually shared my plan with my wife, she didn’t hesitate to bring me back down to earth: “You might want to train for that first.”
That simple suggestion planted a seed. I started preparing 24 weeks ahead of the 2024 edition, gradually building my endurance, step by step. It wasn’t easy, but each walk brought me closer to the goal.
By August 2024, when I finally crossed the finish line amongst the first 2,000 walkers out of 13,000 participants, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride. I had walked 100 kilometers, and I had earned every step of it.
Along the way, I fell in love with walking. There’s something incredibly grounding about being outside, surrounded by nature, with nothing but the rhythm of your footsteps and the sounds of the world around you.
It became more than training for an event—it became a way of life. Joining a walking club only deepened that love, connecting me with others who shared this simple yet profound passion.
Walking isn’t just about the physical act. It’s about staying healthy, challenging yourself, and finding joy in the journey—quite literally.
For me, it’s also about shedding a few kilos and maintaining a lifestyle that keeps me feeling strong and balanced. Every walk is an opportunity to reconnect with myself, clear my mind, and appreciate the world from a slower, more intentional perspective.
This year, I’ve set a new goal: to walk 1,000 kilometers (621.4 miles). It’s an ambitious target, but one I’m excited to tackle.
Through this newsletter, I’ll be sharing that experience—the highs, the challenges, and everything in between. I also want to dive into the gear, tools, and other fun stuff that make each walk more enjoyable and rewarding.
This newsletter is my way of sharing that journey. I want to inspire others to lace up their shoes, step out the door, and discover the transformative power of walking.
Whether you’re aiming for a big goal, like a 100 km walk, or just looking for a way to improve your health and happiness, walking has so much to offer.
So here’s to the miles ahead. I’m excited to share my experiences, tips, and insights as I keep putting one foot in front of the other. Let’s walk this journey together.
Cheers,
Kristof
